Our Story

Building a Foundation for Mental Wellness in Zionsville

The Zionsville Alliance for Mental Wellness (Zamwell) was founded on a powerful belief: that our community can and should fully embrace mental health. Our mission is to cultivate this supportive environment by promoting awareness, encouraging open conversations, engaging residents, and offering accessible resources.

Our journey began in 2018, when Zionsville mothers Amber Nunes and Carrie-Ann Jordan, both Advanced Practice Nurses, recognized the critical need to address the "unseen pandemic" of suicide. Their initial efforts focused on providing vital suicide prevention trainings right here in our community.

Shortly after, the world faced the profound challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting not only physical health crises but also the severe economic impacts and the widespread effects of isolation on our collective mental well-being. Seeing this escalating need, Nunes and Jordan joined forces with Zionsville Town Councilman and physician, Dr. Alex Choi, to officially establish the Zionsville Alliance for Mental Wellness.

What started as a self-funded private partnership, built on over fifty collective years of medical experience, has since grown into a strong 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our core vision is to encourage and support a proactive, prevention-based response to the ongoing mental health crisis.

Zamwell is guided by a dynamic and passionate board of directors, individuals deeply committed to mental health. Together, we work tirelessly to advance Zamwell's mission. We achieve this by:

  • Offering engaging educational events.

  • Providing crucial resources.

  • Maintaining an up-to-date directory of local mental health care providers.

  • Producing a biweekly podcast.

  • Developing other essential services as our organization continues to grow.
